In April last with just a few weeks to go to our big day, it was time for my Vintage Hen Party in Wexford! Excited and anxious we headed off to Wexford for one of the best weekends of my life. Not only was it my hen party it was also my first hen ever so I really didn’t know what to expect. To say I was blown away is an understatement. Vintage loving brides-to-be you may want to sneakily send this along to your bridesmaids!
To be honest, I was never really a fan of the whole hen party idea and my amazing team of bridesmaids and gal pals kept this in mind and gave me an American style bridal shower with the perfect hint of a good ole Irish hen do to remember! (I assure you no willy straws featured, just pretty striped and floral ones!)
I was whisked away to stay at the rather chic Seafield Spa in Gorey, Co. Wexford to one of the apartment style accommodation offerings onsite. Just after check in my mum treated me to a wonderful massage and chill out time at the Oceo Spa before heading back to our apartment to have a girly sleepover with chinese take away, some bubbles and lots of giggles!
Day two we headed to the sleek spa pool in the morning for more R&R before my bridesmaids whisked me away to get my hair done retro style at Philip Rochford Hair. It was then back to Seafield to get all dolled up and pop on a vintage style number all ready for my next surprise! After getting presented with a gorgeous gift from a dear friend Julia it was off to Primmy’s Tea Room upstairs at Primrose Cottage Cakes for a vintage, Alice in Wonderland themed, afternoon tea party complete with lots of bubbles!
The whole experience was just so fabulous, I was in retro, pastel heaven from the moment I walked up the stairs. Primmy’s tea rooms was filled with the sweetest retro trinkets, Cath Kidston wallpaper, gorgeous cake stands, original fine bone china and amazing upcycled furniture.
We sat down to high tea where the cake stands were stacked high with tiers upon tiers of scones, jam and fresh cream, (which had sprinkles in it, I mean seriously!), the most delicious finger sandwiches and the prettiest little cakes on the top. The scones were so good I think I may have ate more of them than any of the gorgeous little sweet treats! There was even lots to take home to feed our hungover tummies the next morning.
We sipped tea, drank pink lemonade and bubbles, nibbled on the treats and took lots of selfies in the Alice in Wonderland inspired photo booth section. The bridesmaids had also organized for each guest to write down some really lovely words about me and read them all out which caused lots of tears over years of amazing memories.
Huge thank you to Siobhan at Primmy’s for looking after us so well and of course to my incredible bridesmaids for organizing something so perfect for this Little Vintage Lady! I truly had so much fun and it really was the perfect hen party.
For brides who don’t want the crazy, drink fueled, naughty-bits themed hen do I would highly recommend something like Primmy’s. Unfortunately, Primmy’s tea rooms are no longer operating but there are lots of other great tearooms (stay tuned for a post coming soon!) all across Ireland who can offer something similar. Or, bring the tea party to you with amazing companies such as Oh So Sweet Occasions and Social Bee.
