You may have seen some sneak peeks on Instagram or if you follow One Fab Day you may have spotted our Vintage Vegas Vow Renewal over there but today I wanted to share it with my lovely A Little Vintage Lady readers here.
Michael (Mr Vintage Lady!) and I love Las Vegas, we’ve been a few times and each time we’ve fallen in love with it even more. When planning our wedding we often joked that we should just run off to Vegas and get married there (seriously we were so close to doing it!) but we would still need to make it official in Ireland anyway and well, I don’t think our parents would have forgave us if we eloped without them!
We had our dream fairytale day in Ireland with our loved ones so this was a more of a second celebration for just Michael and I. I wouldn’t trade our traditional wedding in Ireland for the whole world as I for one would have missed the party with our family and friends had we actually eloped “little white chapel-style”, but this was a sweet and memorable way to celebrate 10 years of being together.
The morning started off with the incredible Andie Piazza from the vintage Heads Will Roll Salon who came to our hotel suite to do both my hair and makeup in true 1950’s style. I loved the look so much and it survived the Las Vegas heat all day long. In fact, my hair even looked perfect the next day! I wore an emerald green dress from Lindybop (which I picked up for around €20 in a sale!) paired with true vintage gloves, pearls and a vintage hair accessory and I re-wore my wedding day shoes, my pink Manolo Blahniks. Michael re-wore his wedding shirt, trousers and shoes paired with a velvet bowtie and braces which he already had. Once hair and makeup was done (and the all important doughnuts were delivered!) we got picked up in a limo from our hotel and off we went to Downtown Las Vegas.
We renewed our vows at the Drive Thru at Little White Chapel in a pink Cadillac with a celebrant who was just darling. Now, in Ireland we got married in a Catholic Church and you don’t get to say personalised vows so he said some lovely words about marriage and love for us and let us have a little moment. It was so sweet and I’ll never forget looking into Michael’s eyes and truly realising I had married this man. Although we were in Vegas we could have been anywhere and by no means did it feel silly or tacky. When the ceremony was over we were presented with a vow renewal certificate and the celebrants ‘recipe for marriage’ which is a lovely little memory we’ll hang onto.
After our renewal we celebrated around the old streets of Vegas – Freemont Street and The Arts District. If you love vintage like I do there are some amazing retro motels, hotels and glittering, gold, neon areas which are perfect backdrops for photos. I had packed a little basket with Sofia Sparkling Wine, pretty glasses, stripey straws, some napkins and a box of donuts from Pinkbox Donuts (honestly the best donuts we have EVER tasted!) and some confetti cannons which never got used from our Irish wedding. We had such fun and giggles celebrating in showers of confetti on the vibrant streets of old Vegas with our photographer Kristen.
The talented Jill and Renee from City Blossoms made my dreamy bouquet and a matching boutonniere for Michael complete with velvet ribbons! The bouquet was so beautiful and it smelt gorgeous all day long. The lovely Kate from Dusty Boy Designs (a fab Irish biz) designed us a custom Las Vegas Print and I designed an announcement card from Papier as little mementos from the day. The most precious memento from the day has to be our incredible photos by the amazing Kristen Kay who joined us for our renewal to document the day and what an amazing job she did! I just love these memories so much.
If you are thinking about tying the knot or renewing your vows in Vegas, I’d highly recommend it as well as the incredible wedding suppliers who helped make our day happen. Feel free to drop me a line if you need any help or advice!
